When the hustle and bustle of daily life seems to be wearing you down, you might want to stop for a moment and consider that not only is your life hectic but that your spiritual life might be suffering from all it as well. If your spiritual life is suffering you are also going to start feeling like your life is dreary. This means it's time to recharge your energy and this should be done through some contemplation and relaxation. By finding a way to get in touch with your spiritual self is going to help you regain new interest in your daily activities. One of the best ways to do this is to go on a retreat.
Remember that retreats really need to be an individual activity, so this means you need to do this alone. You need to take some time for yourself where you don't have to do anything for anyone else. This means that you need to let your boss, your friends and your family know that you are not going to be available for the amount of time you decide to devote to your retreat. It doesn't have to be for days, one day can do the trick. Whatever amount of time you decide upon you need to treat it like any other appointment and put it on your calendar and commit to it.
You will then need to decide where you will be the most comfortable being for this spiritual retreat. Will you be comfortable staying at home or going out somewhere? If you decide to stay at home make sure that you wear comfortable clothing and turn off your cell phone, regular phone, computer and TV.
If home is your choice try going to your bedroom, your porch or some private area in your yard where you can read the Bible, other inspirational books or where you can take your own private journal to write in. Fix yourself a cup of herbal tea and a snack and then spend time reading or journaling. You might even want to listen to some music, draw, whatever makes you feel calm and relaxed. Stop thinking about the little things that bug you in daily life.
If your home can't give you the privacy that you need then you might want to take your retreat elsewhere. Think about the different locations in your area that fill you will inspiration. This could be a park, a museum, a local coffee shop, somewhere music might be playing. You may want to be around nature and feed the ducks or even visit the zoo. Whatever it is that keeps you from thinking about your daily life for a day.
At the end of your retreat kick back and reflect back upon all the things that you liked the most about the day you had. Write down all of the things that made you feel good and more in touch with your inner self and what things you could do without the next time you decide to take a day off for yourself.
